This kicks off my first blog ever. I have done the research, sat in on webinars…what to blog about, what not to blog about, who is your audience, etc. And to be honest there is a lot of advice out there—which is good but also confusing. While I enjoy reading a number of blogs, the thought about blogging myself made me somewhat apprehensive. So I decided to kick it “old school” and check out how the dictionary defines a blog …you can’t get much more straightforward than that, right?

Blog (blŏg) : to author an online diary or chronology of thoughts

The clouds have parted, the fog has lifted….I get it now. Just write about what I am thinking and what interests me and hey, maybe someone else will find it informative …or maybe it will just provide good material to induce sleep….either way it will illicit some sort of response.

Recently,  we had our annual sales meeting in the Big Apple (does anyone even call NYC that anymore?). After a few thousand frequent flier milers and a couple of flips through the Sky Mall magazine from the sales and marketing folks from around the world we were ready to strategize, share thoughts, critique ourselves, and the Telecom Expense management industry. Fun and at times draining. So here are few interesting tidbits that came out of the meeting:

  • There are over 200 players in the Telecom Expense Management market and by 2013, analysts say it will be 300… this industry is blowing up!
  • There are 650m mobile users in China…lets put this in perspective…there are more cell phones there, then there are people in the entire US.
  • Our Executive Chairman, John Bruce, has a deep hatred for WD-40....you should ask him to blog about it if you want to know why.
  • According to a colleague, May and December have the highest reported incidences of broken mobile devices. Why? Because Blackberry releases its new phones in May and December. Maybe it's just a coincidence? I don't know if its true but I thought it was funny.
  • Gareth Parker, one of our sales executives has an unhealthy obsession with Britney Spears and 80s music. He hasTelecom management marketer everyone one of her songs on his ipod along with Abba, Debbie Gibson and Peter Cetera.
  • By 2012, ¾ of the workforce will rely solely on mobile devices...that's 400m people!
  • I need to start wearing my glasses...I couldn't see the whiteboard half of the time.  I avoid wearing because I really don't like how they look.

Until next time… what do you think I should blog about? Leave your suggestions in the comments field!

Since I have just signed on to Facebook, I have no idea what to expect in a blog. I would like to know more about what you do at work. Also I feel the same way you do about glasses!

Nice Work! Blogs will drive more traffic to your site, but it does take time to generate traction.

We started our Blog back in August and have had some success, but not many are checking in every day. We'd also like it to lead to sales but one thing at a time!
